Tropical Update: Tracking the Tropics – what to expect from two possible developments
SUMMARY: Temperatures are staying in the 90s. In the tropics, there are two systems: Invest 94 in the Caribbean and Invest 95 in the Atlantic. Invest 94 is bringing heavy rain to parts of the Yucatan, Belize, and Honduras through Saturday, possibly reaching the Gulf and Mexico by Sunday. Invest 95, with a higher chance of becoming a named storm, may enter the Caribbean by next week, affecting areas like the Lesser Antilles, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. High pressure will steer it westward, but its exact path remains uncertain. Locally, no tropical threats are expected through the 4th of July.

New Orleans Weather: Excessive heat warning for Sunday and tracking Hurricane Beryl
SUMMARY: A tropical storm in the Atlantic has been upgraded to a hurricane, currently about 50 miles from the center with warm water and low wind shear aiding its strengthening. It could become a Category 2 hurricane by tomorrow, and possibly a Category 3, approaching the Lesser Antilles by late tomorrow into Monday. Wind shear may weaken it as it moves into the Caribbean. We are monitoring another potential system, Chris, developing near Yucatan, possibly moving into Mexico. We expect hotter, drier weather for the Gulf Coast this week, but will monitor long-term hurricane impacts. An excessive heat warning is in effect, with potential temperatures reaching up to 114°F.
Meteorologist Alexandra Cranford has the forecast at 5 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, 2024.
