Tropical Update: Several areas to watch for development
SUMMARY: Next week will continue the classic summertime weather as June ends, with active tropical conditions. We are monitoring two areas: Invest 94 in the central Caribbean and Invest 95 in the Atlantic. Invest 94 is producing showers and storms but has low development chances and will bring heavy rain to the Yucatan, including Cancun, Cozumel, and Tulum, by Friday and Saturday, improving by Sunday. Invest 95 isn't an immediate concern for the US but could develop into a named storm near the Lesser Antilles by Monday. Local conditions will see scattered storms and temperatures in the 90s, with no immediate threats from these systems.
There are no threats to the northern Gulf Coast through the 4th of July
SUMMARY: CDC officials are investigating a multi-state Salmonella outbreak linked to backyard poultry, affecting 195 people across 38 states, including nine cases in Arkansas as of May 23. Initiated with 109 cases from 29 states on May 23, Arkansas has since reported four additional cases. No deaths have occurred, but 50 people have been hospitalized, including 17 since the initial report, with 41% under age 5. Missouri has the highest cases at 23, followed by Texas with 21. No cases reported in several states including Alaska, Hawaii, and Delaware. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, and nausea. CDC advises against children under 5 touching backyard poultry.
