Morning Forecast – Thursday, June 27th
SUMMARY: Meteorologist Chase Ward reports damp conditions with temperatures and dew points in the mid-70s. Despite being one of the cooler days this week, highs will still reach the low 90s. A stationary front north of I-20 might bring patchy showers to southern Arkansas, while the gulf coast of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi see rainfall. Winds remain calm and northerly, with less breezy conditions. No significant relief from heat is expected as temperatures will climb back up for the weekend, potentially hitting triple digits next week. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms persists through Sunday and Monday.
A frontal boundary will stall over the area today. Winds will shift more northerly which will help in keeping temperatures a tad cooler compared to the past few days. Still expect very warm conditions this afternoon. A patchy shower or t-storm will be possible for areas along and south of the I-20 corridor due to the placement of the front. Things heat back up tomorrow. Hazard heat conditions will last through the weekend. There is still a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms next Sunday through Monday, but there will be little change in temperatures next week. We could be even hotter with temperatures bordering the triple digits. It seems the dawg days of summer are here to stay. Continue to practice heat safety and avoid the peak heating hours of the afternoon.
