Morning Forecast – Friday, June 21st

SUMMARY: Meteorologist Chase Ward reports a mostly clear morning with occasional cloud build-up. Temperatures start in the upper 60s to lower 70s. The day will be hot with highs approaching the mid-90s and heat indices feeling like the lower triple digits, especially in urban areas like Monroe and West Monroe. The windy conditions from prior days will calm down, increasing the discomfort. Heat safety is emphasized as hazardous heat conditions persist, potentially reaching a heat index above 105. No significant rain relief is expected, although a minor chance of showers exists. High heat continues into next week with slight changes, including potential pop-up thunderstorms by mid-week.

A few clouds will linger this morning but may pop back up later this afternoon. Given all the current moisture in place, a stray pop of shower cannot be ruled out with daytime heating. Still expect hot and humid conditions today especially since winds have started to calm down. High pressure will keep the weather pattern quiet this weekend with temperatures climbing to the upper 90's making for hazardous heat conditions. This will last into the start of next week. Heat safety must be practiced by staying out of the sun, avoiding the peak heating hours of the afternoon, and staying hydrated. Next week, a new system could arrive by late Tuesday into Wednesday sparking up chances showers and thunderstorms. The placement of the low pressure system and associated front is still to be determined so overall rain coverage is still uncertain. It also does not look like there will be any relief from the heat as we stay mainly in the mid 90's.

Morning Forecast – Thursday, June 27th

www.youtube.com – – 2024-06-27 08:55:20

SUMMARY: Meteorologist Chase Ward reports damp conditions with temperatures and dew points in the mid-70s. Despite being one of the cooler days this week, highs will still reach the low 90s. A stationary front north of I-20 might bring patchy showers to southern Arkansas, while the gulf coast of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi see rainfall. Winds remain calm and northerly, with less breezy conditions. No significant relief from heat is expected as temperatures will climb back up for the weekend, potentially hitting triple digits next week. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms persists through Sunday and Monday.

A frontal boundary will stall over the area today. Winds will shift more northerly which will help in keeping temperatures a tad cooler compared to the past few days. Still expect very warm conditions this afternoon. A patchy shower or t-storm will be possible for areas along and south of the I-20 corridor due to the placement of the front. Things heat back up tomorrow. Hazard heat conditions will last through the weekend. There is still a chance for scattered showers and thunderstorms next Sunday through Monday, but there will be little change in temperatures next week. We could be even hotter with temperatures bordering the triple digits. It seems the dawg days of summer are here to stay. Continue to practice heat safety and avoid the peak heating hours of the afternoon.

SUMMARY: Temperatures are staying in the 90s. In the tropics, there are two systems: Invest 94 in the Caribbean and Invest 95 in the Atlantic. Invest 94 is bringing heavy rain to parts of the Yucatan, Belize, and Honduras through Saturday, possibly reaching the Gulf and Mexico by Sunday. Invest 95, with a higher chance of becoming a named storm, may enter the Caribbean by next week, affecting areas like the Lesser Antilles, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, and the Dominican Republic. High pressure will steer it westward, but its exact path remains uncertain. Locally, no tropical threats are expected through the 4th of July.
