Local artists pay homage to Lower 9th Ward
SUMMARY: An art installation in New Orleans' Lower Ninth Ward, coinciding with Juneteenth, celebrates black homeownership and community identity. Created by local photographers Chandra McCormick and Keith Calhoun, who have spent over 40 years documenting the city, the installation is a tribute to their childhood neighborhood. The Lower Ninth Ward historically had one of the highest concentrations of black homeowners. Through their “Memoirs of the Lower Ninth Ward,” the photographers aim to capture the area's soul and spirit, preserving its legacy amidst changing times. The installation, illuminated beautifully at night, hopes to inspire current residents to appreciate their community's rich history.
“We tried to cover and capture the soul and the spirit of the Lower 9th Ward,” said photographer Keith Calhoun.

Better rain chances. Lower Temps. WWL Weather for Thursday, June 27th.
SUMMARY: Thursday will see more clouds and better rain chances, potentially keeping temperatures in the 80s and avoiding a heat index of 108, which triggers a heat advisory. However, this relief is short-lived as rain chances diminish by Friday. Over the weekend and into next week, an upper High will build, causing temperatures to soar. For the latest updates, download the WWL app. I'm chief meteorologist Chris Franklin.
Better rain chances and more clouds could keep our temperatures down today, but it's short lived, says Chief Meteorologist Chris Franklin

HONEY HOLE INSIDER: 6/28/24
SUMMARY: I'm David Owens with the Honey Hole Insider. It's hot out, so ensure you have sun protection, but the fish are still biting. For summertime bass fishing, start with topwater early, then switch to deep crankbaits. Using specialized equipment like a Revo winch with a Veritos winch rod optimizes your experience. Good crankbaits include the Berkeley Dredger and Berkeley Dime. Crappie fishing is fair to good in shallow flats due to low deep-water oxygen. Brim and catfishing are also productive. Visit Honey Hole for all your fishing gear needs this summer. Have a great day!
