Clean up efforts for oil spill in Smackover, Arkansas
SUMMARY: I'm live in Smackover, where an oil spill occurred on June 14th and was reported to Environmental Protection agencies on June 15th. The spill affected Smackover Creek and Holes Creek but has been contained before reaching the larger Aah River. Approximately 2,500 barrels of crude oil were spilled, along with around 4,024 barrels of an oil-water mixture, 1,326 barrels of crude oil, and 60 cubic yards of oil-impacted ground already flushed out. Federal, state, and local agencies are collaborating on cleanup efforts, with strong community support and favorable weather aiding in the process. Reporting for AHRIST News, I'm Sammy Petco.
On June 14th, an oil spill occurred in Smackover, Arkansas from a pipeline. It was not found until June 15th, but was reported immediately to the Environmental Protection Agencies. Federal, State and Local agencies all came on June 17th to start their assessment and begin the clean up stages.
SUMMARY: CDC officials are investigating a multi-state Salmonella outbreak linked to backyard poultry, affecting 195 people across 38 states, including nine cases in Arkansas as of May 23. Initiated with 109 cases from 29 states on May 23, Arkansas has since reported four additional cases. No deaths have occurred, but 50 people have been hospitalized, including 17 since the initial report, with 41% under age 5. Missouri has the highest cases at 23, followed by Texas with 21. No cases reported in several states including Alaska, Hawaii, and Delaware. Symptoms include fever, diarrhea, and nausea. CDC advises against children under 5 touching backyard poultry.
