How to have a budget-friendly Fourth of July in SWLA
SUMMARY: Fourth of July is approaching, and KC's Omar Martinez offers advice on enjoying the holiday without overspending. Despite grocery prices rising—beef is up 20%, chicken 25%, and bread 21% since 2021—budget-friendly celebrations are still possible. The average family is spending $15,000 more annually on groceries compared to 2021. However, there are many free events available, particularly in Southwest Louisiana. Families can enjoy fireworks at the Civic Center, live music, and various festivities such as Moss Bluff's Red, White, and Boom celebration, a free concert by the US Air Force Band of the West, and a free ballet performance at Millennium Park.
This Fourth of July, instead of fireworks popping out at you, it will be the high grocery prices.
According to Datasembly, Fourth of July cookout staples have increased over the past three years, with beef costing 20% more, chicken 25% more, and bread 21% more.
